Resume Background
Jill Baty grew up in a sailing family on the border of England and Scotland and began racing with her father at a very young age. While in college, she was a member of the Royal Northumberland Yacht Club and sailed out of the Royal Forth Yacht Club, Edinburgh. Jill then moved south, where she both raced and cruised the English Channel, Scandanavia and the Mediterranean. She then joined the Royal Ocean Club and sailed the circuit for eight years. Jill sailed the work's team for John Illingworth Yacht Design and also sailed and worked for Hurrel & Johnson, selling Natour Swans when the boats were first imported into England. Offshore Cruising Experience Jill also has a vast range of experience when it comes to cruising. She has completed 11 transatlantic crossings under sail: Northerly Route, Southerly Route, East to West, and West to East. Jill has cruised and raced the world over including 15 years cruising, racing and managing the yacht 'War Baby'* with Warren Brown. Jill has sailed and raced Britain, Europe, the Mediterranean, as well as North America, the South Atlantic, South Pacific and Australia. In the past Jill has worked charter yachts in the Caribbean and sailed extensively with Donald Street, author of The Caribbean Cruising Guides. * War Baby, aka Tenacious, is a Sparkman & Stephens designed, Palmer Johnson built, 61' sloop and 1979 Fastnet Race winner.
